The Kutztown Fairgrounds started as a simple annual fair held every year. Since then, it has grown to encompass wedding receptions, racing events, auctions, and our very own Oktoberfest. We are proud of our community and fair board, and look forward to continue the cycle of growth!
The Kutztown Fair did not start as an agricultural fair as we know it today. According the the Centennial History of Kutztown, published in 1915, a popular military fair was held in Kutztown in 1831 and continued annually for many years. This event was a celebration and reunion of the local militia which included militia and volunteer organizations, such as fireman, with often more than 1000 men marching in line. The August 12 & 13, 1831 fair advertised good music and pretty girls. It was described as a “hilarious sport” and included a military parade, shows, good pastimes of all kinds, much beer, mead, sweet meats, and fruit.
As we delve into the coming years we are excited about the future of our fairgrounds, which are available for various rental opportunities, as well as out very own hosted Kutztown Fair and our upcoming 2nd Annual Kutztown Oktoberfest. If you have any quewstions or are looking to book the Kutztown Fairgrounds for use, please either give us a call or email us. We would be happy to help!
We look forward to the rest of the year, and can’t wait for you to join us!
